Meet The Team

Philip West – Director and Founder

Philip, a retired Police Inspector, specialised in the policing of major incidents. He founded Continuity West Ltd and transferred his skills into the business sector as well as joining the Business Continuity Institute.

Philip has full adult teaching status and is currently a member of The Society for Education and Training. He is also a member of The Emergency Planning Society with whom he recently undertook Operation Griffin bringing him completely up to date with the current terrorism trends.

Philip was a governor of two secondary schools for nearly 20 years. This steered him to develop MIMS, so it could be used for schools as there were no suitable incident management systems in price or function for this sector.

Philip is a keen cyclist, hill walker, model railway enthusiast and armature magician plus ventriloquist. He is the event organiser for the Bath Beat, a marathon walking and running evet in Bath. Having Grandchildren who live in Austria he is also desperately trying to learn German!

Michael West – Director and CEO

Michael’s experience lies in both HR and IT system implementations. As a qualified member of the chartered institute of personnel Michael held a few different HR roles in his early career. More recently Michael has project managed a number of IT system implementations including HR, online recruitment, eLearning and payroll systems.

Michael joined Continuity West in 2016 to manage the operations as well as the ongoing development of the MIMS system. Michael manages the upgrade schedule and development work of the MIMS product ensuring we are constantly improving our offering to our customers.

 

Outside work, his interests include hiking, wild camping and all the joys of the countryside. With a mix of eclectic hobbies including juggling, scuba diving and unicycle riding he is always up for a new experience or challenge.

Chris Simms – Director and MIMS consultant

After leaving a senior IT Management role in Shell Aberdeen, Chris returned to the North West of England in 1995 where he subsequently worked for IT Services Companies, principally Capgemini and Atos providing consulting, practical expertise in Service Management and Business Continuity.

He established his own Consultancy Practice in 2007 undertaking Project and Interim Management Roles whilst also providing Risk Assessment and Business Continuity consulting to SMEs and the Education Sector.

He has ITIL qualifications and also attained a PRINCE II Practitioner Certificate. He is a member of the Business Continuity Institute.

Chris almost seamlessly transferred from his own Practice to Continuity West in 2017 and believes his experience and expertise will enable Continuity West to expand in North West England, where he is based.

Outside work, his interests include walking and golf and several genres of music. After a significant gap, he has restarted to play the piano, but only when he is alone at home!

Mark Taylor – MIMS consultant Health sector

Mark is also a recently retired police office having reached the rank of Chief Inspector in Hampshire Constabulary. He has a similar skill set to Philip’s and the two worked together in the noughties teaching senior police officers across the country how to command at major incidents.

Where as Philip has specialised in schools Mark has worked more in the health sector devising plans for hospitals and hospital trusts. This along with the fact that Continuity West has a contract with Public Health England, to provide trainers when they test hospitals, in their ability to deal with major incidents, puts Continuity West in a strong position to deliver good plans and testing exercises to this sector.

Mark also likes to work in the charity sector and like Philip is going back to his love of running a model railway.
